#2 The First Girl I Loved

My last post introduced you to how I am getting my writing prompts now....I think I want to change my mind on that. Why? Because the vulnerability is about to be exposed. Prompt #2: Describe Your First Girlfriend In Detail If you don't believe me that this is the prompt, I urge you to check out the list at  http://www.mantelligence.com/best-journal-prompts/ I invite you to do this because this post may become a bit embarrassing for me and it wasn't my idea. But alas, in an attempt to actually stick with something for a change, here goes nothing. To begin with, I have to define "girlfriend" because I have been a part of everything from flings to flirtationships to full-on relationships. The girl who I will be talking about is the first girl that I loved and fell in love with. For the sake of anonymity (and the fact that she may read this) I will simply call her "J". I met J when I had a crush on another girl although from the first time I met J, I kne

#1 Oh The Places You'll Go

I often find it difficult to figure out things to write about on this blog since my life seems so mundane sometimes, but I find great value in writing...and writing consistently at that. Lucky for me, I was looking into other blogs when I stumbled upon gold. At least it was gold to me. The name of the blog is "Mantelligence" and the post was about 101 Journal Prompts. Since this blog is a bit of my personal online journal I thought I might as well try it out. Prompt #1: What Are Some Places You've Enjoyed Visiting? When I was young, I was a trampolinist and had the opportunity to travel for competitions. My first time on an airplane was in 1996 to Phoenix, Arizona for my first Junior Olympic National Championships. Little did I know that later in life, I would serve my mission in that very same city. Phoenix and all of Arizona will always hold a special place in my heart because of these two experiences.  As I mentioned before, my competitions took me all over

Movie Monday: Sully

I know it isn't Monday but yesterday ended up being busier than I expected so thus, Movie Monday makes its premier on a Tuesday. Saturday evening I was eating dinner with my roommates as they began raving about "Sully". You know, that new movie about the pilot who landed an airplane in the Hudson River. The one with the trailer that doesn't have very much to it....except a plane landing in the Hudson. Let's just say I was skeptical about the movie to the point that my roommates were shocked at my dismissive attitude and dragged me, nearly kicking and screaming, to the movie theater that night just to see the movie. At the completion of the movie, I was asked by these same roommates what I thought. By response was that I had nearly a hundred thoughts going through my head both good and bad but that the movie as a whole was not bad. It was much better than I expected it to be. So what were my notes? To start with what I felt was poor about the movie, I didn&

Fashion Friday: Olive Green

Image
First let me tell you that I am addicted to fashion. I have been for a few years now and my favorite outlet is the Vogue Runway app. They have every picture from every collection from major fashion week. I literally spend hours each week thumbing through the styles and designers and even reading up and studying the trends, mood boards, and themes of the shows.  With that, I begin my first #FashionFriday post with a topic that I have discussed with a few friends lately and that is the base color of Olive Green . Black and white will always be in. Shades of grey continue to forge forward as a leading base color for fashion. Navy goes in and out (right now it's in). But olive green is a new addition to the catwalks.  By new, I mean that it first started to take its footing in the Fall 2015 and 2016 shows. makes sense, right? In the fall the greens of leaves begin to lose their luster. We tend to focus on the rich reds and oranges of changing leaves, forgetting that sometimes

Lit Quote Thursday: Manipulation

"Sometimes a manipulator's own ends are simply the actual disruption of the ward for the sake of disruption. There are such people in our society. A manipulator can influence the other patients and disrupt them to such an extent that it may take months to get everything running smooth once more." As very few of you probably know, I am currently reading Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest . This novel centers on mental hospitals in a time where there was need for reform. This particular quote from the novel  concerns a new patient that has a very particular personality. This quote is one nurse speaking to another regarding the new patient's first actions upon entering the ward. Yes, there are people like this in the society of a mental hospital but there are also people like this in societies outside the padded walls of those being watched and nursed. Also, I feel that each individual has a manipulator within themselves. The manipulator of frustrati

Martin's Cove

My parents came to town this weekend to spend some time in Casper, Wyoming. Let's be honest, there really isn't much to do in Casper but the main activity that was planned was a quick trip to Martin's Cove. For those unfamiliar with this historical location, Martin's Cove was a main thoroughfare for early Western travelers. The Oregon Trail, the California Trail, and the Mormon Trail all made their way through this area with its landmarks including Devil's Gate and Rattlesnake Gorge. As a part of the experience, visitors are given the opportunity to walk the trails that these pioneers of Western American civilization walked as they forged forward to their destinations. Unfortunately we did not schedule enough energy to make the 5-mile trek but we made sure to make our way through the visitors center and the surrounding buildings to learn more about specifically the Mormon pioneers. This area is significant for me and my family as my ancestors came through as ear
