Creation of Individuality

I've been meaning to update this for a couple of weeks now but I just cannot find the right words to write.  I would call it writer's block but I don't really call myself a writer. What are the things that matter most in life?  I think that this is the question of the century for many people, myself included.  Life is so much about prioritizing but what are the priorities?  What is my ideal self?  Where do I want to see myself in the future?  How will I get to that point? I find that these questions are what end up defining a person's life and their purpose.  On the journey to discover and create oneself, direction is necessary. Motivation. Theme of my life. Consistency. Necessity in my life. Habits. Biography of my life. I write my own story.  It is my life, my story, my words.  I am me.  I don't want to be anyone else.  I want to be better every day.  I set my own rules.  I make my own choices.  I am an...

New Year, New Adventures, Still the Same Me

As the last semester came to a close so did 2011.  For some reason I really did not want to think too much about New Year's Resolutions this time around.  I guess I just really want to live my life out loud and be the biggest me that I can be. Comparing myself now to what I was a year ago I have seen that there are no real changes to who I am but just changes to what I do and my focus.  I now have a direction in my life.  I know what I'm doing and where I am going with my life. International Studies is the greatest move I could have ever made.  I love it so much and in one semester it has taught me and excited me so much. I am so much stronger spiritually now than ever before.  My sense of identity as a child of God is now empowering me with a new force and motivation for life. Socially it is so interesting how much can happen in a year.  Many new friends have popped up in unexpected places and have impacted me greatly.  No surprise on this on...

Inspiration Comes Specialized

As you may have guessed by now, school has indeed started.  In fact, this week is midterms.  Fun!!!  Over the past month and a half, however, I have developed my character in new ways and am learning not only academically, but in other aspects that mainly have to deal with who I am and how I conduct myself.  I have given myself many more opportunities than usual to receive needed inspiration. One thing learned is that a person must be in a comfortable setting to receive.  Often, writers seek out nature, a place where their thoughts are free and can take their words and plots into a new direction and to clear writers block.  An athlete finds inspiration on the field, on the court, or in the arena.  For the average person, inspiration can be found just about anywhere:  a favorite room, a favorite bench, or even a favorite pair of socks. I have found my setting for inspiration and I now take advantage of it as often as I can.  Doing this has...

A Bachelor on a Break

You know how last time I said that everything was falling right into place?  Well, for the most part that is still true.  The only thing that is putting a kink into things at the moment is the fact that I do not have a job.  Let me tell you, it is not easy even in a college town with all of the students out of town.  In fact, there are a lot of businesses that have even closed down completely for the break because they would not be getting enough business.  A lot of places I talk to say that they will probably be hiring in September when all of the students come back.  Thus, my goal is to get applications and resumes to all of these places ahead of time so that there are more options and opportunities when September rolls around.  Surviving until that point is quite boring though.  My apartment and I have had quite the bonding experiencing.  It just makes me all the more excited for September to finally come and classes to start so that there...

The Results are In

The semester is over!!!   Finals week was only slightly painful, self-induced of course, but nonetheless, I made it.  The final grades were posted today and I ended up with a couple surprises.  The three grades that I was sure about remained the same: New Testament (99% A), English (98% A), and Statistics (95% A).  With the surprises, one was good and one was not so good.  I am very happy with the outcome of my toughest class, History of Psychology (87% B+) and not completely sold on my DNA class (81% B-).  Overall, academically this has been a very tough semester but it has been a very telling semester.  In the past week alone, almost all of my academic questions have been answered.  The big question that was on my mind as the semester progressed was if I was going to stay at BYU-Idaho or if there was something else in the plans.  For a while, I was really considering going to BYU-Provo campus just because they had the major that I now want....

From First Day to Finals Week

Unfortunately, I have not kept y'all updated very well.  It would be a lie if I said there was never any time to  because everyone always has a little bit of time somewhere or another.  But I figure that since this week is finals wee that i better at least attempt to bring you up to speed.  I am proud to say that for the most part this semester, I have been able to stay caught up on all of y homework and in doing so have given myself a little allowance for some down time here and there.  I can't say that I made good use of that down time all of the time but I can say that from the things I have done, that I have learned just about as much as I have in my actual classes.  Whether that is a lot or not is for you to decide.  My psychology class remained my toughest class throughout the entire semester even though my DNA class sure gave it a run for its money nearing the end.  New Testament is still amazing yet I think that my English class I my favor...

The Swing of Things

School has definitely started. It has gone off to a fast start too. So much so that it is already hard to keep up. The classes that I am taking this semester are a lot harder and more time consuming than last semester which is creating minor problems, namely procrastination isn't working as well. I love procrastinating but I can't do it as much this semester. Definitely the hardest class I have right now is my History of Psychology class. There is so much reading for it that it is rare that I get it all completed on time. Not only that but the reading is very hard itself. It is a tough textbook to get through. A lot of the things we talk about in class are interesting though. I just fear that my comprehension, or lack thereof, is going to play to my detriment. My favorite class is definitely my New Testament class. Bro. Whalquist is the man. He is so excited about what he is teaching that he gets me, and probably most the people in the class, excited about it as we...
